CHELSEA'S EDOUARD MENDY PAVES WAY FOR BLACK GOALKEEPERS ALL OVER THE WORLD
Lawrence Vigouroux the goalkeeper for Leyton Orient a team in England's EFl league two believes that Edouard Mendy is changing the perception of how black goalkeepers are viewed in European soccer with his amazing presentations for Chelsea.
Mendy immediately set up a good foundation for himself as the Blues' main goalkeeper in the wake of showing up from Rennes in late 2020, He later helped lead the Blues win the Champions League last season.
Vigouroux, who stood up against racial attacks on the internet following Orient's lose to Port Vale, he believes theys a need to challenge the picture of black players in his position – and trusts Mendy has had a major effect.
"Rarely would you see a black goalkeeper," he said on his club's YouTube channel.
"I think a great deal of the insight was that, 'He has a misstep in him' and I've needed to fight through that my entire life. What's more, not simply me – there's heaps of other black goalies that have needed to manage it.
"It's something that I believe is evolving. I take a look at Mendy at Chelsea – I had never known about him when he finished paperwork for Chelsea – and he's finished stunningly, and he has made ready for a ton of black goalkeepers.
"We can admire him as a source of perspective for what he's done and I feel like that view is beginning to change.
"I'm checking out our association and I think there are seven or eight that are beginning week in, week out, so I feel like that view of black goalkeepers is changing, however there's far to go."
